As 2022 draws to a close, we thought here at Glam Adelaide, what better way to celebrate the crazy fun we’ve had this year than by looking back at the incredible ventures and venues that have happened this year.
2022 has been a rollercoaster, and the hospitality industry has shown strength, determination and resilience these last 12 months. Lucky South Australia has been gifted with outstanding restaurants to make memories with family and friends while enjoying incredible dishes and creations. This year, SA’s culinary talent has taken us global, bringing the world’s best and most interesting flavours and techniques to the state.
In no particular order, here are incredible places that opened this year:
BOBIBAO
With walls of terracotta and vibes a plenty, Bowden’s newest resident is promising to bring a refreshing take on a cult classic cuisine.
From the makers of famed Moon Bear Dumpling Co. comes a new Asian-fusion eatery, Bobibao.

FRANKIE
Mitolo Wines is delivering a brand new dining experience to McLaren Vale with the launch of Frankie Italo Dining & Disco Lounge (Frankie for short) – an Italian inspired diner with disco balls, gelato, and a “cucina povera” approach to its food.
Frankie is the latest instalment of Mitolo’s expansion, adding to the existing offering of the Cellar Door, Little Wolf Osteria and Mitolo weddings.

BANDIT PIZZA AND WINE
The team behind the Prospect Neighbourhood venues Anchovy Bandit and Bottega Bandito are opening a sister pizza and wine restaurant in Hyde Park. Taking everything they know and love about pizza, wine and community to a new neighbourhood for locals to enjoy.

EBISU SUSHI
For many of us, there is a constant search for our new favourite restaurant. Whether it be a chain, a hole in the wall or something new that no one has ever heard about, the hunt is always on.
Ebisu Sushi has introduced itself to the City of Holdfast Bay hoping to serve up something a little different to its loyal customer base. Originally establishing itself in Mawson Lakes over 3 years ago, Ebisu Sushi has opened its second location on Jetty Road Glenelg.

NIJU CAFE
You know it for its incredible All You Can Eat sushi but now, Japanese eatery, Nijumaru is levelling up once again with the introduction of its new all-day breakfast menu and outdoor dining garden, dubbed Niju Café.
Featuring eclectic, Japanese-centred dishes, a brekky date at Niju Cafe is far from boring and will open your eyes to a whole new way of brunching.

UNIQORN EATS
For two years, Uniqorn Eats has been bringing colour and fun to the CBD and now, the eclectic eatery is expanding with a brand-new cafe now open in Glenelg.
The second location is bigger, brighter and more accessible with owners wanting to create a more inclusive environment. The Glenelg menu has a range of gluten-free and vegan options meaning no one has to miss out on tasting the rainbow and in celebration of its opening, a new candy-themed cocktail menu has been created!

SINGAPORE CIRCUS
Singapore Circus is the new d’Arenberg food experience that channels the “vibrant, bold and exciting” flavours of South-East Asian inspired cuisine, replacing the famed high-end Cube Restaurant.
Located on level three of the $15m building, Singapore Circus will do-away with costly fine-dining degustations and introduce a fun, flavourful, and more affordable feed-me menu.

CHUNKY OBBA GOGI
If you like the sound of tender, flavoursome cuts of meat, marinated and cooked to perfection over coal then I dare say you’ll like the sound of the CBD’s newest restaurant.
Set to open late July, Chunky Obba Gogi is offering a unique take on the popular cuisine that is Korean BBQ and with one look at the menu, you’ll be booking a table before you can say Bulgogi.

UMAI KITCHEN
Umai is the Japanese word for delicious. That couldn’t be more applicable to Union Street’s newest arrival.
New restaurant Umai Kitchen is introducing Adelaide to some of Japan’s most beloved dishes.
Although the restaurant is tucked away on the East End, we wondered what would come out of the vacant space. Umai Kitchen was the result of our curiosities.

FLAMBÉ KITCHEN AND BAR
Licks of flame dancing across a hot pan, to flambé is to create drama and theatre through cooking, ultimately sparking joy. And that is exactly what new Hutt Street restaurant Flambé Bar and Kitchen aims to do – spark joy.
“For me, when I see someone smile because they’ve had something amazing to eat, it makes me happy. Putting a smile on someone’s face through food makes me happy.”
Aptly named Flambé, the restaurant portrays the name not only the menu but also in feeling.

ORIENTAL DUMPLING KING
Filled with cabbage and shrimp, doused in soy sauce, or fried to golden perfection – no matter how you like them, dumplings are always a crowd favourite. If you consider yourself a bit of a dumpling connoisseur, you must try Oriental Dumpling King – the newest dumpling dealer to open on Rundle Street. All dumplings are handmade, made fresh every morning, and showcase unique flavours you have to taste to understand.

Africola Canteen, the hotly anticipated new eatery from the kitchen of Australia’s most exciting restaurant, will open in late July.
Africola’s new venture will showcase the super fresh and veg-forward flavours of Duncan Welgemoed’s acclaimed Adelaide restaurant in a casual setting on The Parade in Norwood.

SILVER SANDS BEACH CLUB
A new beachside venue in Aldinga has sprung to life and is already impressing locals and visitors alike with its showcase of local produce and stunning views and while the title of “SA’s best drink list” is up for debate, with Nick Stock in charge it’s a safe bet that it will be pretty impressive.
Silver Sands Beach Club is the newest venture for the renowned wine critic who, along with his business partner, DJ and food vendor Mark Kamleh, has turned the old Aldinga Bay Surf Life Saving Club restaurant into the mid-coasts newest go-to venue.

With the success of the Campbelltown location, Zayt and Zaatar have decided to open up in a new neck of the woods at West Lakes. Zayt and Zaatar pride themselves on Lebanese fine dining, with flavours and recipes inherited from previous generations.

Ideally located on the picturesque property of the Barossa’s 1837 Winery, a new destination restaurant is patiently waiting to burst onto the scene. Horizon at 1837 will bring an elegant, sophisticated dining experience but don’t let the high-class vibe fool you, this place isn’t just your special occasion venue, it’s somewhere you’ll want to return to time and time again.

PRESS FOOD & WINE
Press Food and Wine isn’t technically new BUT the restaurant has completed its latest renovations and it looks bloody brilliant. Alongside the fantastic renos, the talented Chef Tom Tilbury has launched a brand new menu, which commenced Wednesday 13 April.
