Best of BBQ: Long lunch series for ‘A Little More Barossa’

Bringing the theme of BBQ and barrels, the lunches will see Weber Grill Academy pop-up at a winery for the first time in the Barossa.

The Barossa’s Gibson Wines and Adelaide’s Weber Grill Academy will be firing up in the last week of Winter, hosting a series of long lunch indulgences, as part of this month’s ‘A Little More Barossa’ Festival.

Bringing the theme of barbeque and barrels together, the lunches, held on both Friday 26th and Saturday 27th August, will see Weber Grill Academy pop-up at a winery for the first time in the Barossa.

In a private marquee amongst Gibson’s vineyards, the lunches will offer a generous Barossan menu, highlighted by smokedbeef pie and a herby porchetta roast with crunchy crackling.

Prepared exclusively on Weber barbeques, each course will be paired with a special wine selection from Gibson’s museum, with founder and winemaker Rob Gibson guiding guests though the story behind each bottling.

Whilst guests soak in the relaxed winery surrounds, Grill Experts from Weber Grill Academy will provide cookery tips and insights on how to get the best out of a barbeque.

Completing the experience will also be behind-the-scenes access into Gibson’s barrel shed. Guests will be provided a preview of how the 2022 Shiraz is maturing – direct from oak barrels – from second generation family member, Adam Fiegert.

Founded in 1996 by Rob and Anne Gibson, the family-owned Gibson Wines has established a reputation for Barossa wines of flavour, curiosity and generosity. They lay claim to the accolade of ‘Best Shiraz’ from this year’s London Wine Competition.

Adelaide’s Weber Grill Academy, the first in Australia, is one of over 100 Academies worldwide and opened in late 2020. It provides a range of barbeque experiences, from learning to cook with charcoal, to pellet smoking and gas-fired grilling.

Adelaide was chosen for Australia’s inaugural Weber Grill Academy site, with the first Weber ‘Kettle’ Grill being imported into the country by Adelaide businessman, Ross McDonald.

A Little More Barossa food and wine festival – a month-long program with over 50 curated events, offers new tastes, flavours and experiences, across more than 40 Barossa locations. A true celebration of food, wine and culture.

Tickets to Barbeque & Barrels, perfect for those also seeking a Father’s Day gift idea, are available for $199 per person, with bookings made at www.gibsonwines.com.au.

When: Friday 26 and Saturday 27 August 2022, 11am-4pm.
