Located near the beach on Jetty Road, Largs Bay florist Floyd & Frankie is a panacea for anything that might ail you. More than just a florist, owner Mel Clothier has created a space where visitors can recharge their batteries with Elementary coffee, cakes and toasties.
For those looking for a gift, there are bouquets starting from less than $50, and homewares, jewellery, children’s clothing and more.
“People are looking for that cosy little nook to sit in,” says Mel. “when people come into our store, they always say it has a nice feeling about it; it’s a creative space.”
Extending that creative vibe, Mel has now fitted out a basement studio for hire.
“Creatives can use the studio hire for as little as 45 minutes charged at an hourly rate from $50,” explains Mel, “and if you wanted to do a content creation shoot where you use the backdrops and the lighting, then that starts from $150.”
“We want it to be cost-effective but fun as well – it’s not your typical photo shoot vibe. It’s meant to be creative.”
The studio has already hosted a number of photo shoots and is welcoming a Pilates instructor specialising in movement.
“You can hire it out as a raw space which has downlights and the raw white walls, which is great for our pilates classes, and then you can also hire out the backdrops, floor lighting, any props like mirrors and little pouffes, chairs and clothes racks,” says Mel. “We can even create flower arrangements for your shoot – which obviously works well with our florist upstairs.”
Floyd & Frankie has hosted pottery classes upstairs, and now, with the new studio space, it’s something they hope to have as part of a workshop studio where creatives can have space to grow their crafts.
Making the most of the 1800s building where the florist, cafe and studio are housed, Mel is going beyond flowers and creating a real community.
“We are passionate about creativity and being unique – we love to help individuals, brands, and photographers get creative in the studio.”
