Big Rocking Horse fundraisers and events to get around this weekend

The Big Rocking Horse is asking people to show their support by visiting the grounds.

After the Big Rocking Horse was hit by heavy storms at the beginning of the week, the Gumeracha business is asking people to show their support by visiting the grounds, playing with the animals, climbing the big horse or maybe buying something from the gift shop.

The team took to Facebook saying the extent of destruction led them to the tough decision of closing their beloved cafe. Quickly, locals rallied to help the SA landmark recover and refused to let this beloved cafe disappear.

“We hope we can get back on track with the Cafe soon,” Owner Mel said.

“We will try and re-open the cafe, I will save every spare cent and hopefully re-open within 6 months.”

Local business’ are also fighting to keep the iconic park and cafe alive, including Rik’s Grill, who will be setting up their food truck in the Big Rocking Horse car park this Saturday and Sunday to serve mouthwatering American BBQ.

On the menu is 12 hour slow cooked brisket and american pork ribs, all out of a massive three-door offset smoker.

All profits made at the truck this weekend will go straight to the cafe – who lost over $8000 worth of stock and equipment.

Rik says he was so empathic to the owners experience, being in the hospitality industry himself and understanding the turbulence.

“The things they are missing to operate this weekend, I have in the truck, so I offered them some help to keep them on track,” Rick said.

“When you get in these positions, which I have been in, in hospo, where it feels like there’s no light at the end of the tunnel… doing a little thing like this can make it easier.

“I just want to take a little pressure off them.”

Other business’ are showing support, with Sacred Siren Tattoo Studio – joined by Neon.pineapple.tattoo in the CBD – will be doing $100 rocking horse tattoos for the remainder of September, donating 50% of the proceeds directly to The Rocking Horse to help get them back on their feet.

“They have not asked for this help! But we want to help in anyway we can.. let’s support local and give the next generation the beautiful memories of visiting The Big Rocking Horse!” the Studio said on Facebook.
