Banksia House is the newest way to experience Bird in Hand, not just through its wines or its acclaimed restaurant LVN, but by staying among the hills, trees and nature that define the estate. The rammed-earth home sits on 26 acres just a short walk from the winery, offering the kind of slow, design-led escape that oozes understated luxury.

“Inspired by the natural beauty and tranquillity of the Adelaide Hills, we wanted to create a retreat that extends the Bird in Hand experience beyond the winery and restaurant,” says co-founder Susie Nugent.
“Banksia House offers guests a luxurious, nature-connected stay — ideal for those attending weddings or private events on the estate, as well as families and friends seeking a refined country escape.”

The house was originally built 25 years ago as a sustainable project, its rammed-earth walls layered with warm, earthy tones that mirror the surrounding bushland. Inside, a recent interior upgrade by designer Georgie Shepherd (the same creative force behind Bird in Hand’s fine-dining restaurant LVN) introduces soft textures, organic materials and a calm, quietly luxurious palette.
“Banksia House was built 25 years ago, designed by the architect to be sustainable,” Nugent explains.“[Georgie] brings cohesion across our spaces, balancing understated luxury with natural textures and warmth.”

The open-plan living area is built for long, lingering stays. There’s a wood-burning fireplace at the centre, a ten-seat dining table for shared meals, and picture windows that pull the outside in. A gourmet kitchen and underfloor heating elevate the experience, while four bedrooms – including a king master with ensuite – make the house a fit for groups, families and bridal parties drifting between events on the estate. Outside, bi-folds open to native gardens, towering gums and a firepit spot that catches the late-afternoon colour changes across the hills.
Across the estate, Bird in Hand already offers boutique accommodation through its ‘O’ Quarters – sleek, vineyard-side suites reserved for guests dining at LVN. Banksia House adds a new dimension.
“Unlike our boutique ‘O’ Quarters accommodation within the estate, Banksia House is a self-contained home set on 26 acres, offering privacy and flexibility,” Nugent says. “It’s perfect for groups, families or event guests wanting a luxurious base within walking distance of the winery.”
The experience is designed to feel relaxed and slow paced, with complimentary Bird in Hand wine and breakfast provisions, walks to Woodside’s bakeries, or simply sitting by the firepit as the hills shift colour at dusk.
“We hope guests feel grounded and at ease,” Nugent says. “The rammed-earth walls, natural light and thoughtful interiors create a sense of quiet luxury. It’s a space that feels both restorative and connected — elegant yet relaxed, just like Bird in Hand itself.”

And though the house sits slightly apart from the winery, it’s still connected to the rest of the winery offerings.
“Banksia House is part of the Bird in Hand experience — close to the winery, cellar door and LVN restaurant,” Nugent says. “Guests enjoy complimentary wine tastings, and Bird in Hand wines or local produce can be arranged for delivery or pre-arrival stocking.”
Banksia House is a slow-living extension of the estate, designed to make you feel as though you’ve stepped inside Bird in Hand’s world and stayed a little longer than planned. And with holiday season fast approaching, there’s never been a better time to book your Hills escape. You deserve it.
