When you makes wines as beautifully as Adelaide Hills icon Bird In Hand then you’re going to win some admirers, but this last week has made for a particularly enjoyable highlights reel for the makers.

To begin, their worldwide reputation has been given another boost with four wines awarded gold medals in The International Wine Challenge held in London, one of the world’s largest wine competitions.

Demonstrating the strength and diversity of Bird In Hand’s wine offering, the gold medals were awarded across three varieties and three of their specialty ranges: Bird in Hand, Nest Egg and Tribute Series. The gold medal winning wines include the 2012 Nest Egg Shiraz, 2014 Bird in Hand Shiraz, 2014 Bird in Hand Montepulciano and 2013 Marie Elizabeth Cabernet Sauvignon.

The International Wine Challenge is accepted as the world’s finest and most meticulously judged wine competition which assesses every wine blind and judges each wine for its faithfulness to style, region and vintage. So they’re done very well for themselves.

Meanwhile, founders Andrew and Susie Nugent found themselves in Sydney hosting an intimate supper in celebration of Dion Lee’s return to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week last night. The supper, held at Bennelong, was attended by twenty fashion influencers including Margaret Zhang, Christine Centenera, David Jones Executives Donna Player and Damian Burke, Amanda Shadforth and ELLE USA Editor-At-Large Faran Krentcil.

Guests were served Bird In Hand’s award-winning 2012 Nest Egg Shiraz and 2012 Nest Egg Chardonnay at the supper which followed Dion Lee’s showing of his resort 2017 collection at the Bloomberg skyscraper rooftop.

All in all, this has been a great week for the team for Woodside, not only pushing themselves but the reputation of South Australia and the Adelaide Hills as a premier wine region internationally. Back pats all round.
