This October, the Black Dog Ride crew are revving up for their South Australia State Ride, an epic eight-day journey raising awareness for depression and suicide prevention.
From Saturday, October 18th to Saturday, October 25th, riders will travel a huge 2,571 kilometres, starting in Mount Gambier and finishing up in Berri, with stops in Murray Bridge, Nuriootpa, Wallaroo, Whyalla, Port Lincoln, and Port Augusta along the way.
At each stop, riders will be chatting with locals, hosting events, and opening up conversations about mental health. Their mission is to break down stigma and remind people that it’s okay to reach out for help.
“Black Dog Ride could not do what we do without every dollar raised or every kilometre ridden in support of our events and rides – we are so grateful for local communities like Adelaide who help raise funds to allow us to give back to those in need of mental health programs through our Black Dog Australia Community Grants,” shared Craig Goodman, South Australia State Coordinator and Volunteer for Black Dog Ride.
“Our mission is to break down the barrier of silence and encourage family, friends and colleagues to seek help on depression and prevent suicide, as we believe managing mental health can lead to meaningful, fulfilling lives.”
Along the way, participants will sport branded patches, decals, and bumper stickers, showing their support for a cause that touches so many lives. This is all before the ride wraps up with a celebratory dinner at the Berri Hotel.
Funds raised from the ride go straight into the Black Dog Australia Community Grants, which back local mental health initiatives across the country. Since starting in 2009, Black Dog Ride has raised over $4 million, helping to fund local programs and non-profits working tirelessly to improve mental health outcomes.
So whether you’re keen to ride, donate, or simply support from the sidelines, you can find all the details on the Black Dog Ride website, or follow their journey on Facebook for updates, photos, and stories from the road.
