UK indie rock band Bloc Party has announced a headline tour of Australia and New Zealand to celebrate their 20th anniversary, alongside the 20th anniversary of their debut album, ‘Silent Alarm’. The band will be joined by American rock band Young The Giant as special guests during the tour scheduled for August 2025.
Bloc Party, known for their fusion of math rock, indie, and pop elements, broke onto the music scene when lead singer Kele Okereke handed their demo to Franz Ferdinand’s lead singer, Alex Kapranos, and BBC Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq back in 2003. Since the group has gone on to gain international acclaim, headlining major festivals and venues worldwide.
The anniversary tour is especially exciting as it marks two decades since the release of ‘Silent Alarm’, an album that received critical acclaim and various accolades including the NME Album of the Year in 2005 and the Indie Rock Album of the Year at the 2006 PLUG Awards. The album, described by Clash Magazine as a “defining moment in 21st century British guitar music”, is celebrated for its compelling mix of sharp guitar work and pop hooks.
Fans can expect to hear Bloc Party perform ‘Silent Alarm’ in full, and some of their other hits from their extensive catalogue, including popular tracks like ‘Banquet’, ‘Helicopter’, and ‘This Modern Love’.
Supporting Bloc Party on this landmark tour is Young The Giant, a group known for their chart-topping hits such as ‘Cough Syrup’ and ‘My Body’. This will be the group’s first performance in Australia in 14 years, promising to deliver their rich, genre-defying sound to the Australian audience once again.
The tour will kick off on August 1st 2025, at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, before moving on to other major cities across Australia and New Zealand, including Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Christchurch, and finishing in Auckland.
Ticket sales for the tour begin with an early bird presale on March 19th 2025, and general sales will open on March 21st 2025.
This tour not only celebrates Bloc Party’s musical journey over the last two decades but also offers fans a unique opportunity to experience live some of the most influential tracks in modern rock history. With the addition of Young The Giant, audiences across two nations are in for a memorable series of performances celebrating the enduring legacy of Bloc Party.
