Totally flamboyant and totally funny, comedian Bob Downe is heading to Adelaide this November to celebrate four decades of laughs, polyester, and absolute showbiz sparkle. His brand-new national tour, ‘Choose Bob! 40 Ridiculous Years’, is heading to the freshly refurbished Thebarton Theatre on Saturday, November 8th, and if the rest of the country’s reaction is anything to go by, Adelaide’s in for one unforgettable night.
For those who grew up watching Bob grace TV screens, he needs no introduction. Born in the 1980s, the self-proclaimed ‘Prince of Polyester’ has been a shining fixture of Australian comedy ever since, lighting up stages from the Sydney Opera House to the London Palladium. With 17 Edinburgh Fringe Festivals, countless television appearances, and decades of live shows under his belt, Bob has become one of the nation’s most loved and enduring comedy icons.
Now, forty years on, he’s showing no signs of slowing down. “Can you stand it?” he says. “Coz let’s face it kids, I’m not getting any older!” His latest show, ‘Choose Bob!’, is a high-energy comedy concert packed with 80s bangers, power ballads, and mega pop classics, all wrapped in that signature Bob Downe wit. “You’ll walk IN humming the tunes – and laugh and sing along until your face aches!” he promises.
The new show has been touring to sell-out crowds across the country. From Newcastle to Perth and Melbourne to Sydney, audiences have been up on their feet, singing and laughing their way through Bob’s nostalgic silliness. Adelaide’s turn comes next, and locals will get the full Bob experience inside one of the city’s most iconic venues.

Bob’s career has been nothing short of remarkable. Now, after forty ridiculous years, the polyester prince still knows how to put on a show that’s just as hilarious and heartfelt, as it is irresistibly fun.
