Book Review: Authentic Power and Greatness, by Joseph Rodarick Law

The principles of happiness taught through ten interviews that give insight and advice from those who have succeeded in life.

There is much to be had from this book. It has take-aways for everyone.
3.5

Authentic Power and Greatness has someone for everyone. Unlike traditional self-help books where the author writes about their own pathway to success and how they achieved it, the book does not rely on the reader having an affinity with the author and their ideals. As such, it is vastly different from other self-help books written by great leaders – although inspiring, they only demonstrate their pathway or the accomplishments of people they have mentored to achieve success using their methods.

Imagine though, hearing perspectives from a psychic, a strategist, a leading thinker, a Buddhist monk, a philosopher and a Quantum Physicist, all in the same book? The structure of this book is ten chapters, each one in interview format, with questions specific to the individual. Although this results in the questions not being the same for each conversation, it still successfully chronicles ten pathways and versions of success.

The interviewees are all leaders in their fields. We hear from billionaire business coach Bill Bartmann who rose from being homeless at 14 to a billionaire, triumphant across seven industries with his entrepreneurial businesses. Compare him to Dr Edward de Bono, brought up in a highly educated family of medical specialists who instead chose to be a distinguished thinker-teacher. Or, Chin-Ning Chu, whose immigrant experience as a child shaped her pathway as an adult so that she is a now famous strategist, called upon by governments and corporations worldwide.

The story about the author himself is almost non-existent in this book. However, Joseph Rodarick Law is also a leader: he is an author, investor, speaker and philanthropist. He is a board member for the Australia China Relations Institute, is the Chairman and CEO of J Rodarick Corporation, and has interviewed a multitude of leaders – heads of states, billionaires, CEOs – as well as not-so-famous yet highly accomplished folk.

If you want to hear the teachings, insights, principles, habits and spiritual wisdom of many greats there is much to be had from this book. The book’s dialogue-style structure would make it perfect as an audiobook as it does not have the flow of reading a story; rather it is comparable to a textbook where you can reference ideas from who you resonate with, to guide you in finding your life’s purpose, achieving happiness or spiritual growth and more.
