Book Review: Betrothed Book 4: Telophy, by Wanda Wiltshire

Dark Magic still haunts Marla in Faera in this 4th instalment of the Betrothed fantasy series, and we glimpse into the past of the King.

Telophy, the fourth in the Betrothed series, is an interesting choice in direction. Wiltshire has used this book to give an insight into the King and why his character has developed as it has. Thinking him a heartless character who reacts with rage when challenged, while maintaining a careful and controlling presence in his kingdom, this volume enlightens the reader to his history and the compassion he carries within.

I had thought that this would be the final book in the series, but it clearly is not. The adventures have continued and, whilst many puzzles have begun to unravel, there are still many more to resolve. The links between past and present provide the reader with an opportunity to predict possible answers but each seems to be just out of the grasp of the characters as they strive for survival in a changing and dangerous time. The cost for survival for some is incredibly large, yet there is the hint of the possibility for redemption.

There is sadness and sunshine in both of Marla’s worlds and Dark Magic still haunts her in Faera, but the sadness is an unpleasant inevitability with her human family, even though Leif has promised to try and assist. The sunshine and hope of renewed beginnings in Faera for both Fae and Human characters leaves the reader feeling relieved and happy for the events that may soon occur. The melding of memories has enabled some truths to be shared and examined before this chapter ends in moments of pure joy, promising a strong future if the shadows can be thwarted.

I hope that there will be another volume soon as I would love to continue reading the tales seated in the lives of the Betrothed.
