Book Review: Game On, by Janet Evanovich

MYSTERY: Stephanie Plum returns to hunt down a master cyber-criminal operating out of Trenton in the 28th book in the wildly popular series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Janet Evanovich.

Stephanie Plum novel full of all the laughs her readers have come to expect.

Janet Evanovich is best known for her Stephanie Plum series. Fans will be pleased to know that number 28 in the series is now available. Evanovich has not changed her winning formula in all her Stephanie Plum novels and Game On is no exception. We still meet her dysfunctional but very loving and funny family, including her crazy Grandma Mazur and ever patient mother. She still has the same men who adore her and are always around to keep her safe: Joe Morelli the local cop, the mysterious but very sexy Ranger, and Diesel who turns up when you least expect him.

Stephanie is a bounty hunter and in this new book she is after Oswald Wednesday, a brilliant international computer hacker. Unfortunately, Oswald is also a bit unhinged and ruthless. He is killing the members of a small-time hacking group and Stephanie will do everything in her power to save the last two, including stashing them at her parent’s house. She is the sort of bounty hunter that always dives right in regardless of the danger. There are of course a few lesser fugitives to find along the way, helped by the always funny Lula, Stephanie’s sidekick. Lula’s dubious outfits and hairstyles are always a source of amusement.

Janet Evanovich has a formula that works and her novels are easy to read.  Her familiar characters never disappoint. Fast-paced with lots of witty, snappy retorts, there are many laugh-out-loud moments along the way. Evanovich’s characters are well rounded and familiar, and to her fans, reading this new novel will be like reading an old friend.

Game On is the perfect holiday read for those who want to relax with a good book. Never highly intellectual, it nonetheless keeps the reader on the edge of their seat, wondering how Stephanie will get out of the new mess she is in and who may unexpectedly come to her rescue.

Those new to Stephanie Plum, never fear. Game On is a perfect way to be introduced to her. There is enough information to catch you up. And who knows, you may want to read the previous 27 in the series.
