Book Review: Press Out and Decorate Unicorns, by Kate McLelland

A colourful, sparkling book for children enthralled with unicorns. Create and colour 20 unicorns then use the cutouts left in the book as stencils for more.

This is an ideal Christmas or birthday gift for children enthralled with unicorns.

It is presented with shiny red foil outlines and backgrounds to the press out shapes featured on each page. Once coloured with fine markers, the owner may use the unicorns, wings and other attractive shapes to make individual unicorns, mobiles, hanging ornaments or garlands.

The way the book has been constructed also allows for the holes left on each page to be either used as a storage place for pieces or as stencils for further artistic endeavours. The pieces slot together to make 3D models that add extra magic to the products produced.

Whilst this book is recommended for children between 4-8 years old, due to the fine motor skills required to colour and assemble the unicorns I would recommend it for young people aged between eight and ten.

The book is made of sturdy pages and is very appealing to the eye. Upon completion, there are twenty unicorns to be made and displayed as wished.

I am sure many children will spend several days creating beautiful unicorns once they have this book in their possession.
