Inspirational, informative and interesting!

Designed for younger readers, the Legends of Sports series shares facts, stories, and player statistics of several iconic sports figures. The series covers sport stars, from basketballers and football players to F1 Legends, and is designed to inspire the next generation as they read about player triumphs as well as challenges, and what led them to excel.
Split into nine chapters, the book first teaches us about Sam Kerr’s childhood, family, and spheres of influence. As the book progresses, it delves into her sporting life, from her initial entry into the sport to her successes, setbacks, motivations, sporting strengths, and signature moves (such as her now ‘retired’ backflip goal).
The entire series is a nice read for adults who want a light dive into their favourite sports stars. It is refreshing to read an unbiased account of a star’s rise to fame and their background in a social, political, educational, and cultural context, without the hype of media or the heavy prose of an autobiography. You don’t need be a fanatic to read the series, just interested in the sports star.
Although the entire book is devoid of colour, the use of changing fonts, multiple backgrounds, appealing animations illustrated by Leigh Hedstrom, and shades of black, grey, and white keep it visually engaging. The inclusion of facts and varying prose styles further enhances the book’s appeal by adding variety.
A great gift or a light summer read.
