Who hasn’t struggled to think of the perfect gift for our loved ones? Well, worry no more. Zöe Foster Blake has written a story that may be helpful. The Best Present Ever is about a young child struggling to find a gift. Written in the first person, the story is directed to us as readers and the author is the one who is trying to find the present.
When I was thinking about what present to give you, I knew it had to be absolutely AWESOME.
What could possibly go wrong? Every idea gets more and more outrageous, but each time something disastrous happens. Presents might disappear, get eaten, or be destroyed by a meteor.
In The Best Present Ever, the text is silly and the illustrations are hilarious. Lucinda Gosford has perfectly created the crazy world inhabited by the present buyer, with a little bit of extra joy on the end papers.
As soon as you pick up the book, you will be drawn to the front cover showing a child carrying a very large pile of gifts, with the large print title embellished with blue sparkles. The Best Present Ever will definitely stand out on any bookshelf.
Of course all the ideas are absolutely ridiculous, but that is what makes it fun. Children may like to think of their own extraordinary gifts once completing the book.
Among the many other hats worn by Australian author Zöe Foster Blake, she has written five novels and several picture books, the first one becoming Australia’s fastest-selling picture book.
