Book Review: The Perfect Couple, by Lexi Landsman

A woman discovers a long sought-after artefact and her husband’s infidelity, before tragic circumstances wipe all recollection of both from her memory.

Lexi Landsman has crafted an unsettling, suspense thriller that will keep any reader wondering what will happen next. Her writing skill and ability to engage the reader with detailed and emotive descriptions of events, led this reviewer having to deal with a personal PTSD episode before being able to continue reading. She carefully allows you to think all the details have been laid on the table and then, at an appropriate moment, pops in that one little piece of information that changes the whole perception of an event.

This tale shows the differences between appearances and reality as a woman discovers a long sought-after artefact and her husband’s infidelity, before tragic circumstances wipe all recollection of both from her memory. The ensuing feelings, questioning the reality that she is experiencing, and her need to figure out the elements which have disappeared from her previously photographic memory, help develop an intriguing thriller, where everyone is a suspect and the true culprit is quite unexpected.

The story is told from different character perspectives. As it unfolds you see the same occurrence through different filters and start to develop a picture of the true nature of events. Landsman has however, once again left single items of information out and even has planted a red herring or two for the reader to contemplate.

The title and the fractured print on the cover is a hint as to the inner workings of this psychological suspense thriller. It involves family and marital dysfunction, hidden by appearances and personal histories, egos and personalities. Everything merges to form a book which will be well received by readers who choose to travel the path with Sarah, Daniel, Emily, Marco, et al.
