EVENT DETAILS:
Date: Sunday 4 April
Time: 12.00 – 3.00pm
Location: The Art Gallery of SA

Suitable for children aged 5-10 years

Children will be able to explore the wonder of art and books, from cover designs to illustrations, and become inspired to create their own works of art on Sunday 4the April in a themed event ‘This is my Book’.
Children will have the chance to create their own bookplate design on printed card, listen to imaginative storytelling, admire the skilful work of leather book cover design, watch intricate patterns unfold on volumes containing exquisite designs, and listen and dance to a performance by some of Adelaide’s young musicians.

Attendees to the ‘This is my Book’ event will also have the chance to tour the Gallery’s new free exhibition, Ex-Libris: The Printed Image and the Art of the Book. This beautifully presented display pays tribute to the artistry of the book, from early woodcut illustrations to elaborate decorative plates produced by artists over the centuries.

Adelaide-based Artlab Australia is the State’s largest conservator of cultural material. Artlab is responsible for the conservation, restoration and preservation of all of the Art Gallery of SA’s work. Their intricate and delicate skills will be on display at Sunday’s event, with a demonstration by Artlab staff skilfully displaying the art of leather book cover design.

The START program is growing in popularity, with around 700 people attending each month.

START at the Gallery, is held on the first Sunday of every month and is a free program supported by the Balnaves Foundation. The program offers an exciting introduction to visual art for children and their families, through art and craft activities, tours, trails, live music and entertainment.
