Over two years since the success of his debut store in Henley, Bottega owner Adriano Macri is bringing his handcrafted gelato to Jetty Road, a place he has find memories of visiting with his mother as a child, for ice cream of course.
Despite the looming threat of colder months ahead, the labour of love that is creating handcrafted, authentic gelato is what brings scores of loyal customers through Bottega’s doors, along with their showpiece: a hot chocolate tap that drizzles delicious, warm dark chocolate over your gelato.
The Glenelg store, that opened on 29th of May, embraces the old-time feel of Jetty Road’s 20th century buildings, decked out in the signature Bottega soft, pastel aesthetic with custom-made terrazzo baltic pine flooring giving a nod to the old-school pozzetti, the secret to Bottega’s incredible artisan gelati.
As well as debuting a whole new store, Bottega will be offering customers two enticing new flavours to try, a unique Yuzu vegan sorbet and a Salted Moroccan Lemon milk base, which has been crafted using a blend of Adriano’s home-grown 60-month fermented lemons with Bottega’s Fleurieu milk base. Supporting local farmers is a high priority for Bottega, only sourcing fresh seasonal fruits for their refreshing sorbet flavours.
The opportunity to open a second location, a long-time dream of co-owners Adriano Macri and Margherita Giustacchini, arrived at the start of 2020.
“Our Henley Beach store has been an incredible market tester for the success of our gelati, and shown us that Adelaideans appreciate real, quality flavours in their ice cream. It’s been such a valuable learning experience that we wanted to a chance to give back to one of my favourite communities in Adelaide at Glenelg, and share everything I’ve learnt through my journey with gelato” he says.
