As the sun begins to shine and the year winds down, there’s never been a better time to treat yourself to a relaxing staycation in one of South Australia’s premium wine regions. A luxurious accommodation has just opened its doors in the heart of the Clare Valley.
Meet the Mill St. Retreat: the stunning apartments offering guests of the Clare locale a slice of relaxing paradise, and a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of the City.
A complex of four, one-bedroom apartments with a stylish Californian Palm Springs fit-out, the accommodation is perfect for those seeking a private trip away or a romantic getaway for two.
With a king-sized bed and a gentle pastel toned colour theme, the Mill St. Retreat is the dreamy escape you’ve been searching for. Each room has a private deck with a BBQ, and an open-planned kitchen and dining area, letting you whip up delicious culinary creations with local Clare produce in the privacy of their own apartment.
Finding its home on the Eastern side of Clare’s main street, the apartments are a stone’s throw from some of the regions best eateries, cellar doors, hotels and retail shops. Each apartment has its own unique character, incorporating state-of-the-art appliances, luxury furnishings and high-speed Wi-Fi.
The Mill St. Retreat is the little sister venue to the ever-popular Clare Valley getaway, Mill Apartments by Jim Barry Boutique Accommodation.
Peter Barry, the owner of Jim Barry Boutique Accommodation, says the concept for the Mill St. Retreat was built from his experience with the increasing demand for high-end accommodation in Clare.
“My family and I are extremely proud to introduce the Mill St. Retreat to our local community as Clare Valley’s reputation for world-class experiences continues to flourish and grow,” says Barry. “We wanted to create a haven of absolute luxury for our guests, where they could unwind at the end of the day exploring the region and relax in comfort…We felt the need to deliver a service individually designed for the modern-day traveller.
“Each apartment has its own unique interior design scheme, private deck, car parking and office, located only minutes from some of Clare’s best restaurants and conveniences,” he said.
The opening of the Mill St. Retreat marks the beginning of a new business entity, Jim Barry Boutique Accommodation, further expanding high-end accommodation options in the Clare Valley.
Jim Barry Boutique Accommodation received a Tourism Industry Development Fund (TIDF) in 2020 for the Mill St. Retreat project. The family were thrilled to use a team of local tradespeople, some of whom have worked with the Barrys for more than 25 years.
South Australian Tourism Commission Chief Executive Rodney Harrex welcomed the newest luxury accommodation addition to the Clare Valley and said it would drive demand to the booming region.
“Regional tourism in South Australia has reached record highs, as locals continued to explore their home state,” said Harrex.
“The Clare Valley has seen huge numbers of visitors – the region not only meet but beat its 2025 target in March, hitting $134 million in visitor expenditure.
“The opening of the Mill St. Retreat is set to help drive this even further, and as a high-end accommodation option in the region – it’s also set to capitalise on the reopening of domestic tourism and Eastern seaboarders eager to see South Australia.”
The Mill St. Retreat is now officially open for business and available to book. For more information on the Mill St. Retreat and the Mill Apartments, visit their website here. Keep up to date with both accommodations on Facebook and Instagram
