Bowerbird is heading to Adelaide Showgrounds this weekend showcasing not only the best SA designers, but presenting a selection of exciting interactive workshops to discover the creative in you!

Adelaide’s leading design event will run from Friday to Sunday November 26-28 and will put the spotlight on South Australia’s talented designers and makers.

Seek out some Bowerbird favourites and emerging brands across accessories, skincare, stationery, clothing, art, homewares, jewellery, kids’ toys and pantry treats which you can read more on here.

Bowerbird is a great place to make a day of it, stay for lunch with friends and enjoy some delicious South Australian local fare from the onsite food vendors.

Bowerbird will be a hub of activity across the three days with wonderful local brands on display. Find some unique presents for the festive season or discover your own artistic flair by participating in one of The Adelaide Remakery workshops that run across the weekend.

With some sessions for the workshops already sold out, people are encouraged to get in quick!  Adelaide Remakery workshops include:

  • Toothbrush Rug Weaving with Kylie Reynolds. Learn to weave a rag rug using the Amish Knot or toothbrush technique with yarn made in class from discarded sheets and fabric scraps. You can make a coaster to take home or use the kit provided to continue towards a rug or basket.
  • Altered Book Journal with Donna Gordge. Make a journal or treasured memory book using the altered book method. Use the eclectic store of books and paper resources and learn how to embellish a book with junk journal techniques such as pockets and tabs. A tool kit and choice of papers is included.
  • Stamp & Tag Making with Donna Gordge. Design and carve your own personalised stamps. Gift tags will be available to make your own and you can take home a kit with the tools needed to make more stamps at home.  Create your own beautiful hand-printed gift tags – just in time for Christmas.
  • Shabby Chic Bunting with Sue Fenwick. Join Sue in creating shabby chic fabric bunting for your next event, Christmas decorations or just to brighten up your home or office. All materials are included including fabric to take home for further projects.

Coming with kids? Families at the Adelaide Festival Centre program are running the Kids Corner with fun free craft and colouring in children’s activities from Friday to Sunday.

The Adelaide Central School of Art Alumni Committee will also present an exhibition of paintings, drawings and small sculptures by graduates such as Alex Beckinsale, Marisha Matthews, Gemma Rose Brook & Nicholas Hanisch.  Featuring a range of styles and media, including oils, mixed media and digital prints for sale.

Director of Bowerbird Peggy Byrne is excited to present the curated event.

“I’m so pleased to bring together these iconic South Australian companies at Bowerbird,” Peggy said.

“We have recently partnered with Catherine House who do amazing work supporting women experiencing homelessness in South Australia. You can visit their stall to hear about their work and have your purchases beautifully gift wrapped by volunteers for a donation.

“And I’m especially excited to present our diverse and talented designers and makers from all over the state and across a huge range of disciplines this weekend. It’s been a real joy to work with these creatives and I can’t wait to share their incredible wares.

“I encourage you to speak to the makers and designers and hear their stories and learn about their practice, because each product includes a little piece of the makers story and life. When you take it home it should be something you will keep forever.”

Held At the Adelaide Showground, tickets to Bowerbird are $5.50 for adults, while children 12 and under enter for free. Tickets are sold in one hour entry time slots but once inside you can stay as along as you like.
