021014 Media Release Bowerbird Designer Maker Stallholders Announced Spring-Summer 2014Bowerbird have announced the 130 designer makers from around Australia who have been selected for their highly anticipated Spring/Summer event, at the Adelaide Showground November 21 to 23.

Representing the cream of the country’s fresh design ideas and talent, they are all small business owners committed to presenting small runs of high quality product, often meticulously hand crafted or detailed, and made in Australia with home grown materials.

Amongst the new faces to Bowerbird are 28 South Australian designer makers, taking part in Adelaide’s premier design showcase for the first time as part of the upcoming Spring/ Summer themed event, including Adelaide’s DGF Designs contemporary wooden furniture, Emma and Tom handcrafted jewelry from the Barossa, and Adelaide’s Ettie Ink, hand painted and printed playful art works and home wares.

New interstate exhibitors include Sydney’s Mooza Designs, wall décor and signage, and former Jam Factory (SA) trainee Sophie Emmett, now based in Newcastle NSW, where she creates sculptural jewellery under the label Workshop 85.

And of course there are many returning stallholders, who have developed a strong Bowerbird following, including several who sell exclusively in SA as part of the twice-yearly national design showcase events.

Adelaide’s NaMoi Designs beautiful ethical fashion, One Hectare hand printed stationery, and Such Great Heights wonder tents and designs for kids, will all be returning, alongside Tassie’s Dick and Dora, stunning handcrafted Christmas decorations made from sustainably harvested Tasmanian timbers and porcelain, Melbourne’s Sandra Bowkett, presenting a gorgeous range of porcelain and woodfired product for the home, and Queensland’s Siren’s Swimwear and Collective, fashion inspired by the sirens of yesteryear.

Bowerbird Director Jane Barwick says, “Every Bowerbird event is unique – bringing a fresh hand picked selection of Australian designers together with favourites from past events who have new product ranges to share.”

“One of the most exciting aspects of this Spring/Summer market is the fact that so many new high quality South Australian designers and makers have come forward for the first time. Since its inception Bowerbird has been committed to supporting the local design community, and this has included aiming to allocate at least a third of stalls to Adelaide based designer makers. With this round of applications, it’s been wonderful to increase representation to almost half, with 62 of the 130 stalls being offered to SA based businesses.”

Barwick says she is expecting thousands of people to attend the market over the three day period, with the opportunity to find unique handcrafted Christmas gifts always adding to the Spring/Summer market’s appeal. “People love the opportunity to find beautiful and personal gifts that aren’t mass produced, and to chat with the designer makers about the thought and care that has gone into creating every item,” she comments.

“There is lot of interest in Australian designed and made product at the moment, and the small businesses across the country that make up our thriving creative industries. It’s a really exciting time to be working in art and design in Australia, and the buzz at Bowerbird is enormous, with so many people generously sharing their innovations, inspirations and ideas.”

Bowerbird’s Spring/Summer 2014 market runs for three days across the second to last weekend in November. Open Friday November 21st 4pm to 9pm, and Saturday and Sunday November 22nd and 23rd, 10am to 5pm each day, at Wayville’s Adelaide Showground.

With easy access via public transport and onsite parking available, it would have to be Adelaide’s most relaxed Christmas shopping experience, offering quality onsite catering from some of South Australia’s amazing artisan foodies, music and entertainment, children’s activities, lovingly created outdoor picnic spots and more.

We hope you can join with us, and Australia’s design community, for three days of ideas, inspiration and fun!
