South Australian teenager Luke Saville has won the Wimbledon boys’ final against Britain’s Liam Broady in front of a packed house. 17 year old Saville was a set and 2-0 down in the second before rallying for a  2-6 6-4 6-2 win on court 1.

Following on from Bernard Tomic’s Wimbledon run, a new surge of belief in Australian tennis players has emerged.

Although this was Saville’s first time at Wimbeldon, at just 16 years of age, Luke Saville was awarded the Burr Medal for the best male player in South Australia, as well as the Don Turnbull Trophy for the state’s best under-18 player.

Luke, who was a member of the victorious 2009 Australian Junior Davis Cup team, began hitting tennis balls against a wall when he was three years old. He has always had a tennis court in his back yard and his family, parents Mick, a construction manager, mother, Judy, brother, Troy, and sister, Kate, all play.

His parents have had the greatest influence over his career, supporting him and providing him with opportunities. The family relocated from Berri to Adelaide so that Luke could train with quality coaches and hitting partners.

Luke’s tennis heroes are Rafael Nadal because “he leaves absolutely nothing on the court” and Roger Federer, who “has so much talent it’s scary and he is such a nice guy”.
