Boy Wins Audience Prize at MIFF

220px-Boy2010movieposterTransmission Films and Paramount Pictures are proud to announce that the New Zealand box office sensation, BOY has won the Audience Award (most popular film) at the Melbourne International Film Festival 2010.

This follows its win of the similar Audience Award at the recent Sydney Film Festival and its incredible milestone of becoming the number one New Zealand film of all time in its home country.

In fact, with a box office approaching $9.3 million, BOY is now the 7th highest grossing film of all time in New Zealand, making it an even bigger box office smash hit there than Blockbusters such as King Kong; Transformers; and The Chronicles of Narnia.

BOY, written, directed and starring Taika Waititi is an hilarious and heartfelt coming-of-age story. Set on the rural East Coast during the 80’s at the height of Michael Jackson and E.T. fever, BOY tells the tale of Boy, Rocky and their inept wannabe gangster father Alamein. It’s inspired by Waititi’s Oscar-nominated Two Cars, One Night and his own childhood in Waihau Bay.

BOY opened in cinemas nationally Thursday, August 26
