A massive battle of beers is going down at McLaren Vale Hotel on Saturday October 30.

The ‘Brew Battle’ event will see two of the region’s most favourite beer brewers go head-to-head to see who is better at pairing their drinks with a set menu curated by the restaurant.

Starting at 12:30pm and running until 5pm, Guest will vote on whose beer pairs better with each dish, with the winner a special trophy of sorts.

McLaren Vale Hotel’s chefs Simon Burr and Joshua Larkin have put together a three-course meal mirroring to the restaurant’s polished rustic menu. The dishes for the day are under the wraps to keep it a surprise for guests on the day.

The two brewers battling on the day are McLaren Vale’s Swell and Willunga’s Shifty Lizards. The brewers are each required to choose from their beers to select the best brew to pair with each dish, with two beers offered with each course.

Brew battle is set to be a day of fun with DJ Marc Breschi spinning groovy tunes throughout the event and after.

Three courses, six beers, banging music and competition in the air – ‘Brew Battle’ sounds like a loaded day of fun.

Venue manager Justin Twartz says it’s set to be an exciting and very unpretentious event.

“Brew Battle will be co-hosted by the Shifty Lizard’s Lee Stone, Swell’s Shane Parker and our bar manager Ben Tallura – it will be a very tongue and cheek operation,” Justin says.

“We are teaming up with local suppliers and taking a spin on a traditional food and wine pairings, but with beer instead.

“There’ll be good beer, great food and even better banter.”

Justin says the idea for the event came over a couple of knock off beers. The question was raised between Justin and Ben about which beer was better – Swell or Shifty Lizard.

“We thought, how can we answer this question? We decided it was with a brew battle where the people decide.”

Guests can look forward to a ring-a-ding beer battle between two of McLaren Vale’s heavyweights fighting for the title.
