Big Shots Cafe in Brighton is making waves among coffee fans with their new Home Barista Course. Geared towards demystifying the process of coffee making, the cafe offers a comprehensive look into crafting that perfect brew at home. Owner Josh Anderson launched this course focusing on enriching coffee-making skills including espresso extraction, milk frothing, and latte art.
Josh shared his motives, saying “I am running this course to help people learn better coffee extraction concepts, milk frothing and latte art tips and tricks to apply to their home espresso machines.” It’s not just for personal gain though. Josh says that the skills taught will benefit not only those looking to enhance their morning routine but also individuals aspiring to careers in the hospitality industry.
While the Big Shots cafe is known for its amazing food, Josh’s love for coffee has seen that side of the business expand in recent months. “We have moved into roasting coffee with our roasting set up in our Lonsdale warehouse. We have a couple of wholesale customers now. I really love working with other businesses on improving their coffee offering and meeting and training their staff to really nail it! Our wholesale partners have been immediately reporting back with great feedback about how much people are enjoying their coffee, which I get a real kick out of!”
Josh continues, “Now I’m working on our barista training courses, which I’ve setup a little coffee training studio section of our Brighton cafe. We are starting with some home barista training with the idea that people are a bit short on coin at the moment and looking for ways to save. As much as I’d love to welcome anyone into my cafe, I understand the reality that buying coffee from a cafe everyday can be a bit of a luxury. But if you understand some basic concepts in coffee, and with a bit of practice, you can get that quality and flavour that you’d get from a good cafe, at home. And I would hate to see someone sacrifice their enjoyable daily coffee experience just by having to tighten their belt a bit. Especially when it doesn’t have to be that way!!”
The course encapsulates various brewing techniques beyond the espresso, covering methods like cold drip, pour over, French press, and Moka pots. Not only will you improve your coffee game, but the benefits to the hip pocket are also pretty impressive.
