A summer stroll from Jetty Road, Brighton to Seacliff, and back, sun blazing, glistening off the jagged water, and a beverage or two at the Espy because it would be rude not to. It’s a rite of passage if you live down south.

Now the iconic Esplanade Hotel is set for an epic facelift as it closes for business for an almost year-long renovation that’ll modernise the spot and make the most of its idyllic home on the corner of Esplanade and Jetty Road. The venue called last drinks for 11-months on 12 October with a Sunday roast to say goodbye… at least for now.

Hospitality group ALH, which operates The Espy, says it’s still early days for the project and, for now, is keeping the finer details under wraps.

Paul Carew, Managing Director at ALH, says, “The Esplanade Hotel is currently undergoing an extensive 11-month renovation, with works valued at approximately $11 million.”

“The project marks an exciting new chapter for the iconic coastal venue, as it continues to evolve while maintaining the character and community spirit locals know and love.”

“The hotel is expected to reopen before summer next year, with further details to be shared closer to completion.”

For now, the Espy’s Jetsons-esque retro-futurist sign hangs high facing the roundabout, with outdoor areas facing both the Esplanade and Jetty Road. Its airy interior has lent itself to the laidback, yet active lifestyle of Brighton Beach, and we can’t wait to see the outcome of this epic reno.

For now, hang tight, and explore the many fantastic venues along Jetty Road or grab a pew on the Seacliff Beach Hotel balcony just down the road.
