A local hospitality guru has opened the doors to a brand new brunch spot on Jetty Road, bringing a bagel and oat bar beachside.
Girl Next Door joins a stellar lineup of venues owned by Josh Rivers, including CREAM, Diamond Burger, and Remy’s Deep Dish Pizza & Bar. Girl Next Door is the latest addition to this lineup, and will call 2/49 Jetty Rd, Brighton home, in a spot that used to house another of Josh’s ventures, the now-closed donut shop Landough’s.
Girl Next Door, nicknamed GND for short, is next door to Josh’s OG business, CREAM. After years in the industry and dreaming of opening a venue of his own, Josh started his cafe, CREAM back in 2015, and it’s gone on to see huge success as a popular cafe in Brighton.
GND is built into CREAM’s old entrance in the long corridor that opens into the back room, and is a mini shop perfect for a quick bite to eat or morning takeaway.
Longtime CREAM fans may recall its bagels from the COVID era—now, five years later, due to continued demand, the team is bringing them back alongside an oat bar.
At GND you’ll be able to pick from your choice of bagel, plain everything, or jalapeno and cheese, then choose a filling. There are plenty of options, including the ‘Aussie Icon’ with Vegemite, butter, and avocado, and the classic ‘Salmon Lox’ with smoked salmon, cream cheese, red onion, tomato, and cucumber. There’s also an ‘Avo-Feta Smash’, a ‘Sunday Breakfast’, an ‘Egg’s Benny’, and a ‘Vegan Bagel’.
For the perfect finishing touch, add a hash brown (or two) and baked beans for dipping.
In addition to the bagels, on the menu there’ll be options for overnight oats and a build-your-own hot oat bowl menu.
GND’s menu also includes protein smoothies, with creatine available as an optional addition. All oat and smoothie options will have their macros displayed, and select items will be pre-listed on MyFitnessPal for easy tracking—making GND a prime stop for a pre- or post-workout refuel.
GND will be open seven days a week, from 6:30am on weekdays, 7am on weekends. GND is all takeaway, but patrons can feel free to sit in CREAM’s outdoor seating if there’s space free. For coffee lovers, takeaway orders from CREAM can also be placed through a dedicated service window at the bagel bar.
