Brightstar Brewing brings new dark beers to Thebarton this Winter

Brightstar Brewing hosted its “grand opening” on Saturday 28 May, introducing Adelaideans to its new food menu, and a whole host of new dark beers for the Winter.

Brightstar Brewing, which soft-launched in March, hosted its “grand opening” on Saturday 28 May, introducing Adelaideans to its new food menu, and a whole host of new dark beers for the Winter.

Brightstar Brewing co-owner Gareth Parker shared that the opening was a big success and is looking forward to sharing new Brightstar offerings.

“We’ve just launched three new beers: A stout, the Schwarzbier beer (dark larger), and the altbier beer (ale/lager),” said Gareth.

“At the grand opening, we also did a big launch of our toasties and reubens.”

Next door to the recently launched café Thirty Five Stirling, the new taphouse is set to cement itself as another local watering hole.

Steering away from the usual fruity, flavourful froths synonymous with Adelaide’s craft scene Brightstar will be slinging pints of lager and pilsner, with a strong focus on European-esque varieties.

“We also have a bit of a Belgian flare as well as German – we’re a craft larger house but the focus is introducing people to non-American styles,” said Gareth.

Brightstar Brewing differentiates itself from the pack, as the beer is more “malt-driven and easy drinking”, in contrast to hop-focussed brews.

After spending much of his corporate career travelling to both Germany and the US, Gareth spent his spare time studying some of the world’s best beer companies. Brightstar Brewing will now bring a slice of Europe to Adelaide in the form of Berliners, lager, and pilsners pints.

One such example is the Helles – a light, clean beer that was developed in Munich in the late 1800s. The Brightstar Helles has a crisp, slightly sweet finish, which contrasts quite significantly from the new Schawzbier – a dark, German larger with smooth malt flavours and modernate hop bitterness. The dark beer is a year-round favourite, and dangerously drinkable during the winter months.

Gareth said it’s an exciting time to be in the West End, with much change and development in the pipeline.

“A lot of these old warehouses are going to be apartments, so a lot of change is happening over the West End,” said Gareth. “It’s what attracted us to the area in the first place.”

On top of their great beers, Brightstar has also developed a cucumber G+T with a brewing twist, as well as curated beer paddles for punters to discover their new favourite froth.
