Bring Your Pooch To This Dog-Friendly Drive-In Movie Night

A special dog-friendly screening of “The Secret Life of Pets 2” is being held at Wallis Cinemas drive-in, Gepps Cross, to raise funds for RSPCA SA’s care of animals in need.

Four-legged family members are on the guest list to see the highly anticipated sequel to 2016’s comedic blockbuster, The Secret Life Of Pets 2.

Wallis Cinemas is staging the special RSPCA South Australia fund-raiser screening at its Mainline Drive-in at Gepps Cross this Sunday, June 9. Gates will open at 5pm.

The exclusive preview screening at Adelaide’s only drive-in theatre comes ahead of the film’s nationwide release by Universal Pictures on June 20 and follows RSPCA SA’s inaugural dog-friendly drive-in movie night in February.

According to RSPCA SA spokesperson Carolyn Jones the first event was such a success, the charity has been looking out for another appealing animal film to screen for a second event.

“We had 435 cars and 372 dogs come along three months ago to see “A Dog’s Way Home”,” Ms Jones said.

“This time we’ve chosen an animated film that’s packed with hilarious insights about what it’s like to live with animals, and what they could be getting up to while we’re not home.

“Anyone who owns a dog or a cat will definitely relate to some of these scenes, and this film also carries some positive messaging for children about finding courage and inner strength when faced with adversity.

“It’s a perfect family outing for the upcoming long weekend.”

Unlike the February movie night, when the temperature hovered in the high 20s, this event will take place in much cooler conditions and the advice is to rug up.

RSPCA SA also wants dog-owners to be sure their fur-babies have the temperament to cope with this kind of outing and to remember to bring treats, water bowls and dog-poo bags.

“Watching movies from our cars is a fun novelty for younger generations, and in this era of excessive solitary screen time it’s always good to share a viewing experience as a family,” Ms Jones said.

Every car will receive a voucher for one free family-size bag of popcorn and there will be hot snacks and drinks to purchase.

“We expect we’ll hear plenty of belly laughs coming from cars,” Ms Jones said. “In addition, those coming along will know they’re helping animals in need.

“We cannot rescue, provide care including veterinary care and re-home animals without financial support from our community.”
