Brisbane noodle joint brings matcha and cappuccino ramen to Adelaide for pop up

Brisbane favourite Lulu Ramen is bringing its signature chicken broth ramen to Adelaide’s Gouger Street for a limited-time pop-up.

If you’re anything like us and always on the hunt for your next ramen fix, there’s a pop-up on the way that you won’t want to miss. One of Brisbane’s favourite ramen joints is making its way to Adelaide this winter — but you’ll have to get in quick, it’s only sticking around for one week.

From June 20th to 29th, Lulu Ramen will be bringing their signature chicken broth ramen to Ryo’s Noodles on Gouger Street in Adelaide’s CBD. Started in 2023, Lulu Ramen has quickly become a favourite spot for those in Brisbane’s inner suburbs, and now we’re in for a treat as they touch down in Adelaide.

The Paddington-based restaurant specialises in authentic Japanese flavours and chicken broth ramen. The team say they’ll be Adelaide’s first and only spot whipping up this style of ramen.

“I think we’re the only ones in Australia who specialise in chicken broth ramen,” shared Emily from the Lulu Ramen team.

“Chicken broth ramen is one of the most popular types of ramen in Japan. Here you see a lot of broth made of pork, but using chicken makes it much lighter and healthier.”

Lulu Ramen has become known for its unique broths. Most popular are the Paitan and the Chintan. The Paitan is a white broth that undergoes a slow simmering process of at least 8 hours. This creates a broth that’s rich with a lot of depth. The Chintan is a clear broth that simmers for a minimum of 12 hours. It’s made with a precise ratio of bonito fish stock, which creates a robust flavour.

These broths are then filled with high-quality handmade noodles and a special secret sauce crafted from over ten natural seafood ingredients.

“Our chefs are so passionate about Japanese ramen. They have learnt how to make authentic ramen over there, and now at our restaurant in Brisbane, we have a noodle machine imported from Japan. We make everything fresh in-store every day, and we’re excited to bring this to Adelaide.”

The Lulu Ramen team has been looking to bring their food interstate for a while, and when their friends at Ryo’s offered an opportunity for a pop-up, they leapt at it!

There’ll be a good selection of Lulu’s items on the menu, including their chicken ramen cappuccino and their matcha sansho duck creamy ramen.

The cappuccino ramen gets its name not because it includes a shot of espresso, but because of the creamy colour and dusting of black pepper, which mirrors the chocolate on a cappuccino. The matcha, however, does include its namesake in the ingredients. Matcha powder is mixed in the Paitan broth, which creates a balanced flavour.

“Customers might think that the flavour becomes bitter because of the matcha, but it becomes balanced and delicious. It’s one of our most popular dishes.”

Lulu Ramen’s chefs will be taking over Ryo’s Noodles’ kitchen for a short time only, so if you’re keen to try this Brisbane favourite, don’t miss your chance.
