It’s the sibling rivalry that saw this Barossa winery claiming the title of best small wine producer, and they’re finally opening the gate to their newest cellar door just in time for the long weekend.

Brothers at War was established in 2013 by South Aussie brothers Angus and Sam Wardlaw with a rich familial history in winemaking.

Now one of the Barossa’s most renowned wine producers, they have taken over the intimate cottage-style cellar door nestled along the bustling main strip in Tanunda.

In one of the Barossa’s most visited wine towns, the building from 1900s was one of the first buildings in the main street.

Business manager Leigh Underwood says they chose this building for their cellar door as it fits perfectly with the brand’s story.

“It was easy to align ourselves as the brother and I are born and bred in Barossa,” Leigh says.

“The building was quite run down and tired, but we poured heart and soul to returning the building to its fully glory.

“We restoring the building to what we wanted to be while putting out own stamp on it.”

The cellar door will deliver an intimate experience to wine lovers with their bespoke wine tastings.

“Visitors will experience a sit down wine tastings and bespoke atmosphere, which guides them through a tour of what each of our wines mean to us and the area.

“We are the new kids on the block, but we do have a long rich history of the area, so we want to offer that with the experience we provide.”

With a portfolio of 14 wines, Brothers at War will offer tastings of their range from the Barossa and Eden Valley regions including Riesling, Grenache, Mataro, Cabernet Sauvignon, and their famous Shiraz.

To go along with the tastings, the cellar door will be serving a range of regional tasting plates and charcuterie with local food of the Barossa region.

While the wine tastings will take place from 10am-4pm Thursday to Mondays, the cellar door will shift into a ‘Locals Bar’ from 4pm until late. This will showcase the other spirits, wine and beer of the region.

Leigh says the afternoon shift into a relaxed bar experience is perfect for predinner drinks.

One of the first events that the new cellar door will be hosting is the October Month of Riesling at Brothers at War. Starting from October 8 running throughout the month, there will be fresh Smoky Bay Oysters on offer straight from the Eyre Peninsula in their newly renovated cellar door.

Thoughtfully designed and beautifully furnished with clean contemporary touches, Tanunda’s newest hotspot is the place to be this long weekend.

The cellar door has a limited space for 40 people, so bookings essential.

Bookings can be make through their website here.
