Browns Barossa bring gourmet donuts to Tanunda with new flagship store

A NEW donut store has opened in Tanunda and we are SO excited. From Cookie Monster to Lemon Curd, here’s what Brown’s Barossa has on offer!

Oh. My. God! We’re pretty sure that everyone needs to make the trip to the stunning Barossa Valley immediately to try these heavenly donuts!

Browns Barossa is the region’s newest bakery serving up only the finest donuts.

Previously only available in the Barossa, at local farmers markets and as a pop-up, the popular dessert line has now set up shop in Tanunda, offering its followers their delicious, insta-worthy donuts in the convenience of a walk-in store.

For the last four years Browns have crafted the most gorgeous, and outrageous handcrafted donuts, but now they are available in-store and coming soon is a pre-order and pick up service.

From our experience, Browns Barossa does not do things in halves – they truly go all out. There are a plethora of unique, one of a kind flavours that you just need to see for yourself.

Owned and run by David Brown and his wife Rachel, Brown’s began as a passion project.

David spoke to Glam Adelaide to share the story behind Browns.

“It started out as a fun thing to do to raise money for a charity event,” said David.

“We had a really good turn out and then tried the farmer’s markets and did really well so I went on a Donut tour of the USA which allowed us to start a pop-up.

“We opened a Mum and Pop store on December 15th 2021 and have been doing well since then.”

David who has put his heart and soul into ensuring the success of Browns says the support from the community has been incredibly heartwarming.

“All we can ask is people continue to love our product and turn up and support locals, that is all we would wish for,” said David.

“We will continue to create something for people to look forward to.”

Before heading into their new store, we highly recommend having a browse of their website to see what’s on offer. Their core range of 10 donuts includes David’s favourite the Real Vanilla Bean Custard as well as fan favourites The Nutella Job, Ferrero Choc, Cookie Monster and Lemon Curd.

In addition to the year-round classics, every fortnight Browns release their ‘innovation donuts’ which is a new creation.

“We come up with a brand new flavour every fortnight and it’s a combination of what we like and what we think other people like as well as creativity,”  said David.

“With those three things in mind we try to produce something that will excite people and something that is not standard.

“We try not to go too far out of our brand which is authentic handmade donuts made with real local ingredients but sometimes we will try to incorporate something that has some buzz to it.

“The current donuts is the Malteser pleaser donut. It has generous amounts of rich, chocolate MALTESER MOUSSE in a fluffy,  buttery brioche donuts.”

However, being a small business themselves, David says there is a big emphasis on the importance of high quality, local ingredients.

“We make things with the proper ingredients the best that we can.”

“Our point of difference is the product – a lot of donuts are made from a pre-mix but we create our dough from scratch and use local, gourmet ingredients, and we hand roll every single donuts the old way. You get quality because there are no nasties in the dough, you just don’t get the quality anywhere else.”

“We make our fillings with free-range eggs, fresh local milk, and real Madagascan vanilla bean.”

“Hand made, hand-forged and you can taste the difference,” continued David.

The Malteser Mousse donuts is only available until the start of February so you better race up to the Barossa to get it before it’s gone.

Browns Barossa is located at 46 Murray Street, Tanunda, Barossa Valley, S.A.

They are open Wednesday to Friday 8:30am to 2pm and Saturday 9:00 am – 1pm.
