With an impressive five locations across South Australia, Burgertec is one of the community’s most beloved takeaway joints. After five monumental years on Grange Road, developers have notified the owners that the building is set to be demolished.
On Facebook during the week, Burgertec posted the news with the bold heading: “Help! We need you.” The post stated “After 5 years and a countless amount of blood, sweat and tears… Our shop is set to be demolished and we need a new home.”
The restaurant promises two things: 1. To become the new favourite tenant, and 2. to dish out free burgers to the friendly landlords offering Burgertec a new space.
The team is desperately looking for a new home for the Kidman Park Burgertec as close as possible to 376 Grange Rd. The team is open to lease agreements, taking over an existing business, or purchasing a building. Any leads are welcome!
As a result of the restaurant’s post, commenters have gone wild recommending locations and sharing their dismay at the beloved restaurant’s shock announcement. “Free Burgertec,” one commenter wrote, while another shared words of encouragement: “Best of luck guys, I know you’ll get it done.”
The post has gained traction with 63 comments, many of which are suggestions for new locations. The first port of call – 567 Grange Rd, the former Beefcakes and Shakes location, had already been leased out when Burgertec made the phone call. The old Hungry Jacks location on Main North Road was a suggestion in the comments, as was another stretch of shops for lease further down Grange Road. Burgertec is fully open to receiving help until it secures a new home.
Owner Stephen Tzanakis has had a massive year, opening Gilbert’s Wine & Grill with Wilson Shawyer and Ashley Peek nearby on Henley Beach Rd. He also opened Asha with the team from Good Gilbert earlier in the year, and is a co-owner of Good Burger. There is a common air of quality and a terrific reputation that comes from Tzanakis’ hospo ventures.
