Business registrations for the new Coast is Calling Dining Cashback initiative officially opened today at 10am, inviting coastal hospitality businesses to participate. This initiative forms a crucial element of the State Government’s Algal Bloom Summer Plan and is backed by a $15 million investment aimed at revitalising food serving enterprises affected by the recent algal bloom.
Eligible businesses are encouraged to sign up, as the program promises to deliver a substantial increase in customer traffic to the coast by pairing with the previously announced Coast is Calling Travel Vouchers. Both initiatives are designed to drive significant boosts to tourism and hospitality sectors along the coast, targeting to serve restaurants, pubs, cafes, takeaways, and kiosks during the crucial summer period.
The Dining Cashback initiative specifically will allow 300,000 South Australians to claim back 50% off their meal costs at participating venues, up to a maximum of $50. The process for businesses to register has been made user-friendly, requiring only one electronic form that takes less than 10 minutes to complete.
The public can start taking advantage of this offer in a fortnight, with the first ballot opening on Monday, 3 November. It is anticipated that the first set of 60,000 South Australians will be able to engage with their favourite coastal venues and enjoy up to $50 cashback starting from Monday, 10 November. All successful applicants from the public ballots will receive a tax invoice from participating businesses, which can be easily redeemed through a dedicated website.
Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison highlighted, “Through the Coast is Calling Dining Cashback initiative we want to ensure that South Australian businesses impacted by the algal bloom – either directly or due to perceptions – are packed with customers, keeping our hard-working tourism and hospitality operators as well as our coastal economy thriving over summer.”
She also addressed the synergy between the dining cashback and travel vouchers by stating, “Combined with the Coast is Calling Travel Vouchers, this initiative will deliver a significant uplift for coastal tourism and hospitality operators, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors to local restaurants, pubs, cafés, takeaways and kiosks throughout the busy summer season.”
In addition, Minister Bettison highlighted the simplicity of the registration process for businesses, affirming, “We’ve made it very simple for businesses to participate – requiring just one form that takes less than 10 minutes to fill out and we would like to invite all South Australians to show their support to our coastal local businesses while enjoying great savings along the way.”
The initiative ensures a continuous opportunity for businesses to register and participate throughout its duration, remaining open for new entrants across the summer.
Further ballots will open at the start of each subsequent month until March, promising ongoing opportunities for consumers to engage and benefit.
