C9 Chocolate & Gelato dessert bar is Adelaide’s newest hidden gem in the CBD

Tucked away on level one of Rundle Place, you’ll find a dessert mecca called C9 Chocolate & Gelato. I for one think we might have found the newest hidden gem of desserts in Adelaide.

As you make your way up the escalator towards Hijinx Hotel and Archie Brothers Cirque Electriq, you’ll see C9 positioned behind all the action, in the centre of what is set to be a new high-end dining spot. It’s one of the first eateries to come to fruition in the new Rundle Place precinct, after DoughBalls Pizza. C9 popped up in late December of last year, and has been steadily growing a cult following ever since.

If you’ve ever had a late dinner in the city, and wanted to hit up a second venue for a little after-dinner treat, C9 is the perfect spot. It’s open from 10am to 10pm seven days a week.

In recent years, the state has experienced a massive boom of gelato places, seeing the likes of
Bottega Gelateria, Gelato Messina, and plenty more pop up all over Adelaide. We think C9 might just be a worthy rival, with gelato that’s absolutely to-die-for, delicious freshly brewed coffee, and a list of desserts that’ll please any flavour palate.

A major highlight was the creamy pistachio gelato that was just the right amount of sweet. Sprinkled generously through, were salty pistachio chunks, and it made for one of the tastiest pistachio gelatos I can say I’ve ever had.

It doesn’t stop at desserts; the new sweets bar make a beautifully roasted coffee, using New South Welsh beans, Primo. The cafe blend beans are an easy sipping medium roast with notes of sweet peach, brazil nut, and black currant. This made for a lovely sweetness that wasn’t so overpowering that it strayed from the classic flavours of a classic Australian coffee.

On the menu you’ll find decadent cakes, crepes, huge sundaes, and pancakes. A delightful addition is the “smackdown”, with brownies, donuts, or cronuts as the base, topped with gelato and fresh strawberries. C9 has a wide range of gelato flavours including pistachio, Golden Gaytime, and Biscoff – all delicious. Heaps of hot and cold drinks are available, from coffees to hot chocolates to shakes, and even mega shakes, which are topped with various indulgent dessert ingredients.

Manager of C9 Rundle Place, Samira Razmara said, “We’re really grateful to all our customers so far. It’s been so lovely to see some great reviews coming in online.”

When you visit C9, you can expect wonderful friendly service with a smile, and a lovely chat while your gelato gets scooped or your coffee poured. The developing precinct only adds to the atmosphere with an airy surrounding and high ceilings, it’s the perfect pairing to the attractions on level one of Rundle Place.

In the past year or so, Level 1 of Rundle Place has become a go-to for entertainment, whether it’s bowling, arcade games, or the ultra-unique amusements of Hijinx Hotel. When you head up a level, you can feel the precinct coming together for a rare combination of entertainment and gastronomy.

While the underground level of Rundle Place already boasts a range of popular eateries, level 1 is set to be given seven high end restaurants, bars, and eateries in a new 1,500 square metre dining space. Among the offerings on the way are David’s Master Pot, a highly rated Sichuan Malatang restaurant that has already made its way around Melbourne. The precinct will also welcome bubble tea and skewer spots Eastea and God Father Fried Chuan (GFC).

With some amazing new offerings already, level 1 of Rundle Place is kicking it up a gear, and C9 Chocolate & Gelato is well worth checking out.
