The incredible Seann Miley Moore stole Adelaide’s hearts in the most recent touring production of Miss Saigon with their extraordinary portrayal of The Engineer. Earlier this year, Seann returned to Adelaide as part of the Adelaide Festival, starring in the ground-breaking production of Headwig and the Angry Inch. Once again Seann wowed Adelaide audiences with their incredible performance.
Seann first captured our hearts on X Factor UK (2015) and The Voice AU (2021), with powerful renditions of The Show Must Go On and The Prayer that earned Simon Cowell’s praise: “This kid’s a star!” Since then, they’ve headlined major Pride events worldwide, from New York to Amsterdam and Sydney World Pride 2023.
Their bold style has caught the eye of brands like Lululemon, Camilla With Love, and Fenty Beauty. They were also featured in Vogue Australia as part of the Jean Paul Gaultier Get Used To It campaign celebrating LGBTQ+ pride.
At this year’s Adelaide Cabaret Festival Seann will be teaming up with their long time friend Brendan de la Hay for Tired Ass Showgirls.
Seann spoke to Glam Adelaide about their Cabaret Festival show as well as what drew them to be part of Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
“After doing the Miss Saigon Asia tour in Singapore our producers, GWB, contacted me and said they were holding auditions for Hedwig and they would like me to audition. I put down an audition tape and sent it across and was cast as Headwig. I think it’s such a trailblazer of queer theatre and such a liberation for our community, trans spirit, non-binary spirit and to be unapologetic to yourself and who you are. It’s really powerful and it’s such an honour to be part of this show.
“The lead up to opening in Adelaide was definitely a journey and transformation. It’s been kind of lovely to sit with it for a couple of months and go into more research and really connect the dots. I feel like I’m in the driver’s seat with Hedwig now.”
We asked Seann where the idea behind Tired Ass Showgirls came from.
“Myself and the honeybee Brendan de la Hay, we’ve been friends and sisters in the biz and we’d always meet up for a little dirty martini and talk about the scandals and the stories of us hard-working showgirls. The Adelaide Cabaret Festival and Hayes Theatre commissioned me to write my own show, which is super exciting and being on the road doing solo shows can be lonely, so I knew it had to be with Brendan. So we’ve put all these stories together of working eight shows a week and the gossip that happens behind the scenes.”
Brendan de la Hay is an award winning entertainer, tv personality, performance artist, costumier and fashion designer. They are the creative powerhouse behind Sydney’s hottest cabaret venue The Emerald Room, and are the creator of hit shows A Marvellous Party, The Philosopher’s Strip and Hendrick’s Gin’s ‘Grand Cabaret’.
Seann explained the creative process that went into writing the show.
“We collaboratively wrote it together. We’ve been locked in a room throwing ideas, singing songs and it sort of transformed as we each added our own unique spin. Some of the show is reflective and goes back to our beginnings in showbiz and songs that we loved when we were young that inspired us. It’s been so wonderful to re-visit these memories.”
