Cabaret Festival Review: Marney McQueen: Hair To The Throne

This hilarious cabaret show has nothing to do with Marney McQueen – and everything to do with her alter-ego, Rosa Waxoffski.

This hilarious cabaret show has nothing to do with Marney McQueen – and everything to do with her alter-ego, Rosa Waxoffski.

Rosa, a former Miss Leningrad and contestant on Leningrad’s Got Talents, is now a bikini waxer to the stars and royalty (although her beauty salon is at present in beautiful Queen Street, Croydon); and author of the best seller 50 Shades Of Red. With Tina Turner hair that would make any 80s movie blush with jealousy, Rosa has worked with all the ‘biggies’ down south of their borders; the Queen, Princesses Kate and Mary and her most famous client of all, Pauline Hanson. Ms Hanson was able to verify this claim on opening night – she was seated right behind yours truly!

Waxoffski sings, tells snippets of her life story and gets up close and very personal with members of the audience (WARNING: never, ever sit close to the stage at this sort of show if you aren’t prepared to participate – Brett, this means you!). Geoff the accountant, on the other hand, was a little showman. Audience members were pulled up on stage to vie for Ms Waxoffski’s hand in something.

Oh dear, let’s not forget (as if we could) Russia’s biggest pianist (yes, I said pianist), the very funny (or so he says) Boris Longschlongadongski. Boris is infatuated with Rosa (and just about every woman in the audience).

As you may be able to tell from the way this review is written, Hair To The Throne is very silly, very zany, very, very funny and highly recommended. It’s the sort of comedy cabaret show where, if you take your maiden aunt, trust me, she will come out a lot less maiden (and maybe with a Brazilian) – and you will never be able to listen to You Light Up My Life in the same way again.

If you are looking for a good laugh and a great fun seventy minutes, this is definitely the waxing salon to visit.
