Making a return visit to Adelaide, Jen played a bigger stage, with a slightly bigger show. Backed by the Bruce Hancock Trio, Jen has a fuller, more polished sound and she explores some standards (sounding more jazzy this time). Opening with the sensuous Fever a la Peggy Lee she set the tone. This was quickly followed by Green Tile Tango (one of her originals) and familiar characters like ‘Ester’, ‘Jack’ and  others who populated the stage.

John Aue on the bass and Yuri Markov on percussion, all of whom were given the chance to shine, enhanced the expertise of Bruce Hancock on piano. The piano solo was a delightful addition. De Ness’ distinct style is soothing and has the audience relaxing into the comfortable atmosphere she creates.

In the second half de Ness and the band performed some of the numbers from her just released CD including a stunning version of Cry Me a River which is worth buying the album for.

Hopefully this accomplished performer will return to Adelaide soon.
