Stewart Reeve is indeed a vocal chameleon, but above all, he is a born entertainer.

His excellent stage presence, humour and voice have the audience eating out of his hand right from the start of the show. Reeve cleverly weaves his own story and love of music by showcasing his amazing vocal ability to reproduce the sound quality of a multitude of well-known artists: Tim Curry in Rocky Horror, Macy Gray, Freddie Mercury…..the list is endless. Reeve points out early on in the show that he is not an impersonator, but rather reproduces the sound of a particular artist or object.

Chameleon is a show that has something for everyone, covering a wide range of musical genres, including musical theatre (Avenue Q, Rocky Horror and The Producers), 1980s hit classics, grunge and modern pop music. Reeve moves with ease throughout each number.

Reeve’s excellent vocal control nails each voice’s tone, accent, and vibrato, and combines this with just a touch of the physical attributes of the artist (a gesture or head tilt) – there were multiple times through this performance where I swear I was listening to the real deal.

Without giving too much away, as this is a performance you really must see, a highlight was Reeve’s tribute to the late David Bowie. Hot off his critically renowned Adelaide Fringe show in 2019, Rebel, where Reeve payed homage to Bowie, it only seemed fitting that this performance ended where it all started.

This is one of those shows that is over before you know it. It’s an action packed, entertaining hour, but it does leave you wanting more. With only 2 more performances here in Adelaide, rug up and head out to see this incredible performer at work.
