Moonta, get ready for the aroma of fresh Italian cuisine again, popular Pasta and Pizzeria, Cafe Capella’s, has announced its re-opening, after fire ravaged the business in 2022.
The once-bustling licensed cafe is making a three-step comeback to cater for locals and tourists who want good food and longer hours, seven days a week.
The new Cafe Capella’s, owned and run by Matt and Kirby Carter, will be purpose-built and boast a spacious lawned outdoor area, to host live music and create a more family-friendly destination for customers to enjoy good food and great vibes.
The original Italian eatery opened on George Street in 2010, building up over the years to employ 35 staff, including 8 Chefs, who were accustomed to hand-making up-to 350 pizzas a night.
A go-to for locals and visitors to the Copper Coast, Kirby said the town had definitely missed the food and service since fire took hold of the kitchen during an on-site catering job in September.
“Over the busy holiday period tourists were screaming out for food, so instead of waiting around for insurance to weigh up our options, we thought we just needed to get back into it.” Kirby said.
Phase one of Cafe Capella’s come back has already been rolled out, with the famous Capella’s Pizzas now being made at a pop-up location at Port Hughs’ Copper Club.
Offering their well-loved range of pizzas, for dine-in, pick-up or home-delivery, Kirby said it was great to be back, but the pop-up venue’s location had them missing the Main Street Vibe.
Enter phase two, which will see the pizza ovens to their new home, at 1 Henry Street, where all day dining will resume, with a limited breakfast, lunch and dinner menu.
The old-style heritage home purchased by the Carters, has had a commercial kitchen fit-out and will be open for dine-in, take-away and delivery in August….making way for phase three – the brand new purpose-built venue.
While the old favourites like the Pollo Capella Pasta and the famous Capella Pizza topped with ham, salami, capsicum, olives, mushroom, spring onion and pineapple will be heating up the kitchen in the beautiful old building, planning and building for the new venue will get underway, with the old building remaining, meaning it will be business as usual.
Resilient owner, Kirby, said she was grateful to have had Retainment Insurance, which meant her “amazing staff” remained financially supported throughout the ordeal.
