Coffee, curated finds and community are at the heart of Grounded Lonsdale’s next chapter. The much-loved cafe, gift shop and vintage store is now under new ownership, with a renewed vision to create a welcoming space for locals to work, connect and gather.
Galen and Alix, the new owners and visionaries behind the space are already working hard to step up the offering.
The pair have plans to introduce a co-working space within Grounded Lonsdale, creating a welcoming environment for creatives, remote workers and small business owners. The vision is to offer a space where people can settle in with a coffee, connect with others and feel part of the wider community, making Grounded a real destination for grabbing coffee, shopping for vintage, catching up with friends, and settling in to work on various projects.
Creating community is an aspect the pair emphasise for the venue’s new chapter, and that includes the introduction of a children’s space, which they’re already looking to extend. “We’d like to make it a really community friendly space for mums and young children,” said Alix. “We are also hoping to have a day a week that is a meet up for local mums to come together, meet each other and create a community.”
A considered attention to detail shines in every part of the space, but it’s the coffee that’s already got the Lonsdale crowd talking. And alongside it, is something a little more unique. Ceremonial Cacao, a plant-based superfood that’s packed with antioxidants is a new addition to the menu. Cacao mixed with honey, dates and almond milk or coconut cream is Alix’s current go to.
The perfect accompaniment to the locally roasted coffee is Grounded Lonsdale’s mix of treats and wholesome bites. A new addition is Alix’s nourishing, home made post partum meals. Available once a week for pick-up, the meals are designed to nourish new mums with slow-cooked, comforting food that supports rest and recovery after birth, while also raising awareness around how the community can better support mothers in the postpartum phase.
“I have three small children, and I know how important it is for a mum to be nourished in that time and to be held by her community. I’m hoping for it to be something that other people, as they learn how important postpartum care is, will then buy as a gift for a new mum,” said Alix.
Alix explains that Post-partum are important to help reignite your digestives, and that’s done through eating, really warming, gentle spices.
“It’s like a hug in a bowl,” explains Alix.
Workshops are a popular way Grounded Lonsdale have jumped headfirst into the community. Hosting Art Therapy and Ceramic Workshops that have caught the attention of Londsdale-siders and beyond.
An important part of Grounded Lonsdale is their commitment to inclusion and purpose-driven work. The café has partnered with Activated Mentoring as a Fair Go Provider, welcoming people with mild disabilities into the workplace through supported mentoring shifts. Participants join the team for 90-minute shifts, gaining hands-on experience, confidence and a sense of community while assisting around the café.
Under the new ownership, the shift is already visible. You’ll now be able to catch Grounded Lonsdale from 7am to 2:30pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 12pm on Saturdays.
