Caleb Ewan Returns to the Santos Tour Down Under with Team Jayco AlUla in 2024

Caleb Ewan is the first confirmed rider in the 2024 Santos Tour Down Under, in his first international and WorldTour race with new team, Team Jayco AlUla.

In an exciting development for cycling enthusiasts worldwide, Australian sprinter Caleb Ewan has been announced as the first confirmed starter for the 2024 Santos Tour Down Under. This marks a significant return for Ewan, who will be competing in his first international and WorldTour race with the new team, Team Jayco AlUla.

Ewan’s history with the Santos Tour Down Under is not new, and his comeback promises to inject a fresh wave of enthusiasm and competition into the event. The news comes on the heels of Ewan ending his association with the Belgian team Lotto-Dstny. GreenEDGE Cycling, in a recent announcement, welcomed Ewan back to its fold. For those familiar with Ewan’s career trajectory, this is a reminiscent moment, as Team GreenEDGE was where Ewan embarked on his professional cycling journey back in 2014.

Over the years, Ewan has made quite a name for himself in the world of cycling. Known colloquially as the ‘Pocket Rocket’, he boasts of five individual Tour de France stage wins. Furthermore, he has more than 60 UCI victories to his credit. Given his impressive track record, it is no surprise that Ewan’s return to the Santos Tour Down Under is eagerly anticipated by fans and competitors alike.

Ewan’s affinity for racing in Adelaide is well-documented. The Australian sprinter has previously clinched titles as a sprint classification winner, five-time Classic winner, and a nine-time stage winner, cementing his reputation in Australia’s premier cycling race. Speaking about his return, Ewan expressed, “I have always enjoyed racing in Adelaide. It is a great way to start off the year, and the support we get from Aussie crowds is incredible. I feel I have unfinished business in the Santos Tour Down Under and can’t wait to get back there, racing for Team Jayco AlUla this January.”

Ewan’s return to the race is not just significant for the fans but also for the event organizers. Stuart O’Grady, the Santos Tour Down Under Race Director, acknowledged the importance of having a rider of Caleb’s stature in the 2024 race. O’Grady shared his thoughts, saying, “Caleb will be out to prove he is one of the fastest sprinters on the planet. He is a fan favourite at the Santos Tour Down Under and we can expect he will be out challenging in the Ziptrak Men’s Stage 1 Tanunda to Tanunda, Stage 3 Tea Tree Gully to Campbelltown, and also the Hahn Stage 4 Murray Bridge to Port Elliot.”

The 2024 Santos Tour Down Under promises to be a thrilling event. Scheduled to be held in Adelaide and other parts of South Australia from 12-21 January 2024, it will feature nine intense days of elite racing for both men and women.
