Food for Thought Cooking Live-stream

Learn 5 recipes and cook up a storm with a live-stream cooking event to honour World Refugee Day on Saturday 20 June.

Cook up a storm with a live-stream cooking event to honour World Refugee Day this coming Saturday.

World Refugee Day is 20 June, an international day designated by the United Nations to honour the estimated 30 million refugees and asylum seekers around the globe. It celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution.

The History Trust of South Australia’s Migration Museum and the Australian Refugee Association are partnering this World Refugee Day to present a livestreamed event to mark the day.

Join them at 4pm (Adelaide time) on Saturday 20 June on the Migration Museum’s Facebook page as local Adelaide women Ratiba Alhamza and Iman Mohammed cook up a storm and reflect on their journeys as refugees.

Ratiba, originally from Syria, is a talented cook and runs a catering business with her husband. She will be talking you through the preparation of Kibbeh, Fatoush salad, and a sweet dish called Mamoul. Iman Mohammed is originally from Iraq, and says that cooking is her inspiration. Iman will show us how to cook some classics: Falafel and Baklava!

This event joins fellow members of the international Migration Museum Network in observing World Refugee Day. Follow the Migration Museums Network on social media: #MigrationMuseums
