Call out to businesses to help with Afghan welcome packs

The community is rallying around the 100 refugees who have recently arrived in Adelaide. If you are a business who can help make a donation, here is what we are looking for.

A local Adelaide woman has been inundated with requests of how people can help, after posting her intent to donate welcome packs to the evacuated people of Aghanistan who touched down safely this week in Adelaide.

After receiving an influx of individual messages and requests of how to help, we are now calling for any businesses who can donate bulk numbers of these items (50 – 100 units of each) to get in touch with Glam Adelaide so we can organise collection, delivery and distribution of these items.

We are looking for generous local businesses to supply 50-100 units of one of the suggested items, e.g. one local business to sponsor children’s toys or to the snack items for the welcome packs.

Currently undergoing quarantine in Hindley Street’s Hotel Grand Chancellor, almost 100 people landed in Adelaide yesterday in a Royal Australian Air Force plan that was carrying Afghans who had managed to escape to the United Arab Emirates.

With most fleeing Afghanistan with only the clothes on their back, many Adelaideans are keen to help in any way they can, including donations of toiletry, food and household items.

One local woman is putting together welcome packs for the new arrivals with the suggested inclusion of the following:

Snacks such as biscuits, dates, pistachios (any sweets or lollies should be careful not to contain gelatin or pork traces)

Toiletries such as shampoo and conditioner, deoderant, soap and body wash, face wash, toothbrushes and toothpaste, hairbrush and combs

Small gifts such as headscarves, puzzles/jigsaw, notebooks and pens, fluffy socks, plush toys, colouring books and pencils.

When choosing toys or books please check there is no weapons or war references in the item.

If you are a business interested in helping, please send an email to [email protected]
