Music is very much at the heart of SA, especially when we look back at our rich and successful music history. We’re not only the City of Festivals but also Lonely Planet’s Live Music City of Australia! So it’s no surprise that the South Australian Music (SAM) Awards are a standout fixture on the UNESCO Adelaide City of Music’s calendar of events.
Some of our great musicians include Sia, Jimmy Barnes and Cold Chisel, Tkay Maidza, The Angels, Allday, Hilltop Hoods and A.B. Original. And we don’t plan on stopping there with the SAM Awards who recognise, promote and celebrate the myriad of emerging and successful individuals in the contemporary music industry.

A range of categories to nominate artists under, are now open until August 12. Musicians can enter themselves and music fans can enter their favourite act online here. The award categories include both People’s Choice Awards, voted by the public, and SAM Awards, selected by a judging panel of local and national industry peers. (see awards and judges at the end of the article)
On November 8 winners will be announced and awarded at the music industry’s night of nights: the SAM Awards Gala Ceremony. The ceremony continues to be an open event, with early bird tickets going on sale to the general public on August 16 via Moshtix.
An innovation for the 2018 awards is the removal of the Best Male and Best Female categories, to be replaced with Best Group and Best Solo Artist. General Manager of Music SA Lisa Bishop explained: “We believe it is important not to vote on the basis of gender. SA has a diverse pool of high quality, contemporary musicians at the top of their profession, who collaborate and perform together and are recognised by the industry and audiences as equals.”
Chair of Music SA Anne Wiberg said the 2018 awards are set to pay tribute to the incredible talent we have in our state. “The music being produced in South Australia right now is outstanding and the opportunity to celebrate this through an event like the SAM Awards is a real privilege”
Nominate online now. The SAM Awards is Adelaide’s chance to recognise our incredible musicians and place them in the elite company of previous winners such as A.B. Original and Tkay Maidza. Also, don’t forget to check out their facebook and very new website packed with everything you need to know.
Good luck Adelaide Musos!
