Calling All Entrepreneurs – Splash Adelaide Is Back

Adelaide City Council is looking for new ideas for the next round of Splash Adelaide, a series of events and projects that will enliven the city over the warmer months.

Fashion festivals, outdoor reading rooms, vertical gardens, pop-up playgrounds and public art trails are just some of the partnered activities that are on the agenda – with Council now looking to the community to put forward their own proposals.

“We want to hear about any ideas or concepts business owners, community groups or budding entrepreneurs may have,” Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood said.

“Whether it’s a new laneway bar or a pop-up shop in one of the city’s squares – this is all about collaborating and partnering with businesses and the community to try out new ideas and see what works and what doesn’t.

“They certainly don’t have to be costly major projects or events. We’re looking for innovation and quality that the community will get behind and embrace.”

The program will run from September through to March 2013 and successful projects will need to bring vibrancy and activity to the city as well as being flexible, safe, simple to install and, if necessary, easy to reverse.

Last summer’s Splash Adelaide campaign, introduced by Council in partnership with the State Government, saw over 30 different activations around the CBD in just under 4 months.

“The feedback we received from last year’s program was overwhelming – we had responses from community groups, the business sector and individuals all supporting the concept and asking us to keep it going,” Councillor Megan Hender said.

“We also had some suggestions on how to improve some of the projects and we have certainly taken all of those on board. This is a great way to progress as a city – we need to try things before deciding if they have long-term viability.”

This year the Splash Adelaide is included in Council’s new $1m City Activation fund, which supports new and creative ideas to be developed as well as a range of other programmed events and activities that will be rolled out across the year.

Submissions for Splash Adelaide 2012-13 will be accepted from today, Wednesday 15th of August, until Friday 7th of September 2012.
