Calling all photographers – capture the city!

Adelaide City Council is inviting people to share their unique view of the city we live in.

Snap Your City, Your Place is a photography competition calling on the community to submit images showcasing our city places in a new light.

It could be an image capturing a familiar place in an unusual way or a hidden space that we rarely see.

“The city really is a canvas for creativity and innovation,” says Lord Mayor, Stephen Yarwood.

“This is your chance to get out and capture what you find special about our city.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the entries and appreciating the city’s diverse communities and places. Come on Adelaide – show us what you’ve got.”

All entrants will have the opportunity to win a grand prize, valued at $4,000, thanks to sponsors Photographic Wholesalers and Diamonds. The prize includes photographic equipment and a 2013 Photographic Wholesaler’s Gold Pass to exclusive master classes by celebrated photographers.

A judging panel will select one prize winner and 19 finalists who will have their work displayed in an outdoor gallery in the heart of the city.

Judging the entries will be Mark Kimber, Head of Photography at the University of SA, Julie Robinson, Senior Curator of Prints, Drawing & Photography at the Art Gallery of South Australia, Samela Harris, Senior Journalist at Advertiser Newspapers and Dana Mickan, Program Coordinator at SALA (South Australian Living Artists) Festival.

Snap Your City, Your Place is a part of Place 2012, a spring festival of art, architecture and design aimed at invigorating a broad conversation about the value of great places.
