This festival is sure to make us happy campers!
The Riverland Camp Oven Festival is coming up this July to celebrate the Aussie tradition of camp oven cooking. Participants can enter in the cook off, learn how to cook more effectively, and win prizes, all while taking in the beautiful views of Renmark and the Murray River.
Held at Riverbend Caravan Park, the July 9 and 10 festival will feature a “low and slow” cooking demonstration and workshop for beginners, as well as a camp oven cook off (with categories of best damper, best mains, and best dessert) for those who already know what they’re doing!
Dishes prepared as part of the Low ‘N’ Slow demo by All Fired Up Barbeque will be available to purchase, and there will also be a Woolshed Brewery pop-up bar and a DJ to amp up the festival vibes.
For cook off winners, there are some epic prizes awaiting. The prize pool is sitting at $1,600 already, with the value likely to increase as more local businesses support the event. Around a dozen local businesses have contributed so far, including Riverland Country Style Meats, Riverland Boat Hire, and the Overland Corner Hotel.
The camp oven cooking workshop will take place on the Friday, and the much-anticipated cook off will be on the Saturday. The public is welcome to watch the cook off, but to participate, you have to be a guest of the Riverbend Caravan Park.
Situated right on the Murray River, the caravan park in Renmark has some seriously beautiful sunset views to enjoy while eating your oven-cooked meal!
“The campfires will be glowing and the river tranquil, as we welcome you to our friendly rural town of Renmark, right on the Murray River in SA’s sunny Riverland,” the caravan park says.
