A three-legged dog named Ellie is capturing the hearts of staff and volunteers at RSPCA South Australia following her recovery from a severe accident. The two-year-old suffered significant trauma when she was struck by a car, resulting in the amputation of one of her hind legs under veterinary advice. Despite her challenges, Ellie has shown remarkable adaptability and is now on the lookout for a new home.
Kadi Ridley, the Dog Care Team leader at RSPCA South Australia, has been particularly moved by Ellie’s spirit and resilience. “Ellieβs recovery and her ability to overcome adversity are truly inspiring. Despite everything she has been through, her zest for life remains undimmed,” Kadi explained. “Seeing her happy and energetic each day reminds us all of the incredible capacity animals have to adapt and enjoy life, no matter the circumstances.”

Ellie, now fully recovered and residing at the RSPCA’s OβHalloran Hill Animal Care Centre, was recently chosen as RSPCA SAβs Pet of the Week. This special designation has reduced her adoption fee to $95 until next Friday, in an effort to help her find a loving home more quickly.
While living with an RSPCA SA foster carer during her recovery, Ellie demonstrated she can thrive in a loving home environment. She is seeking adopters who are not only sympathetic to her physical limitations but also dedicated to her continued wellbeing. Prospective adopters should be ready to assist her as she navigates life effectively on three legs.

RSPCA South Australia is keen to find a forever home where Ellie will continue to receive the love and care she deserves. βOur priority now is to ensure Ellie finds a home where she can feel safe and cherished,” said Kadi Ridley. The centre is hopeful that her story will encourage more people to consider adopting animals in need, particularly those like Ellie who require a bit more attention and care.
For those interested in potentially adopting Ellie or learning more about her, RSPCA SA encourages them to reach out via email to their dog adoption team at [email protected]. They can provide additional information and arrange meetings for potential adopters to get to know Ellie personally.
