Carnevale Finito For 2015

The sky over Adelaide lit up with explosive fireworks to mark the culmination of Carnevale 2015. They were a fitting tribute to another successful event over the weekend.

CarnevaleAt 9.45pm on Sunday night 8th February, the sky over Adelaide lit up with explosive fireworks to mark the culmination of Carnevale 2015. They were a fitting tribute to another successful event, now very established on the Adelaide festival calendar.

The weekend weather was glorious and for those who wished to escape the summer sun, there was always air-conditioned comfort inside pavilions. As well, there was plenty of shade under marquees, verandas and umbrellas.

The golden voice of Moreno Fruzzetti was a crowd pleaser with a range of popular songs from operatic arias, popular classics, ballads and traditional Italian songs. He received a standing ovation on both nights and it was a rare treat to hear and see him perform, with backing from the 8 piece local band JC Jazz.

Across the board, there was entertainment and activity for all ages. The Youth Stage rocked, the Fashion Stage rumbled and the Kids area was aglow with smiling faces (many painted), entertainment and craft activities galore for them to enjoy.

The School displays were well patronised and the winners for the most interesting and informative exhibitions were East Torrens Primary School (Government School) and Mary MacKillop College (Non-Government School). An Honourable Mention went to All Saints Catholic Primary School for their wonderful use of pasta in mosaics of the Coliseum and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Well done to all schools!

In 2016, Carnevale celebrates its 40th anniversary – who would have thought that the first manifestation in Rundle Mall in 1976 would have reaped so much for the community of SA?

Don’t worry if you missed it this year, CARNEVALE is back in 2016 – 13 and 14 February.
